Photography. Mr. K. Tuson Calvert, photographer of Hamilton, who has previously visited Opotiki, is again operating in the district. Particulars are advertised. Cood Hay Creps. Ensilage and hav making will he in full swing in Opotiki this month and with the luxuriant growth throughout the district, the crops are expected to Ik- very heavy. As a result of the: experience of the previous season, farmers will probably make every effort to secure greater winter fodder than in the past, to enable provision to lie made for exceptionally bad seasons.
Clearing lof Slip. According to Mr. G. V. Merton, the Gisborne resident A.A. patrol, a suittable** track has been cleared through the slip a few miles from Matawai oil the Opotiki-Gisbornc highway. The task of clearing the road has presented* more difficulties than was thought possible at first. Caution is negotiating the passage through the slip is advised. because of the constant falling stones. Men have been on watch all the time to warn motorists of any further slipping. It is expected that the road will be properly cleared by tomorrow.
Shipping. The o.v. Waiotahi Jel't Opotiki lor Auckland on Saturday morning. She is due to leave Auckland to-morrow at 11 a.in. lor Opotiki andi is expected to arrive here on Wednesday afternoon.'
Temperatures. Temperatures throughout the North island at 9 a.m. on Saturday were : Tauranga. and Opotiki GO degrees, Gisborne and Napier 58, Auckland 57. Wellington 51. Athletic Sports To-night. The Opotiki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will open its sports meeting on the reserve to-night. Kvery effort is to lie made to make the sports 'an even greater success than last year and the support of both public and competitors is desired. Supplies of Wire. Merchants''have received advice from an Australian fencing wire manufacturer that as the Australian Government required! the whole of the factory’s fencing and barbed wire output no supplies would be shipped to New Zealand. The supplies! of black wire for bay bales is also. in very short supply. a serious matter with the hay-making sea.son right at hand. Owing to the New Zealand Government’s heavy requirements, roofing iron, nails and leadheaded nails are practically unprocurable and there are no indications when ■supplies will be available.
