OPOTIKI CLUB’S OPENING DAY A LARGE . ATTENDANCE The official opening for the Opotiki Bowling Club took place on" Saturday afternoon in pleasant; circumstances. The green was in excellent ordler and very complete arrangements for the afternoon’s games, had been made by officers of the club. Mr. R. Medley (president), after extending a cordial welcome to jiuuiy visitors from Taneatuii, the Citizens’ Chib, and elsewhere, paid a well-deserved tribute to. Messrs. CV Gordon and A. Debreccny for their skilful work in the preparation of the greens for tlie new season. He then asked -Mrs. Hedley to throw the jack and..deliver the first bowl, a duty which Mrs. Hedlley performed with such success as should augur “good howling” at the Opotiki Chib in 1939-40. Players in full rinks thoroughly enjoyed the games. Afternoon tea provided by the club was served - by members, assisted by tlie ladies. Results of the play aro as follows: J. -Mansell and G. Griffiths tied in. the skips, while W. Maddrcn and S. ~ Burnett tied in the leads in a progressive pairs competition.
