CIGARETTES IN COFFIN

DISCOVERY ON LINER MELBOURNE, Aug. 10—Eleven thousand cigarettes and cigarillos, concealed in a Chinese coffin, were seized by Customs officials when they inspected the Australian Oriental liner, Taiping. to-day. Vessels from the. East usually carry a coffin in case a death occurs at sea. The coffin is filled with white powder, in which the lardy is preserved. Two coffins were found in the ’tween decks o£ the Taiping. 'The top coffin contained only powder. 'The cigarettes and cigarillos were lying on top of several inches of powder in the second coffin.-
