THE ENGINEER’S REPORT
The Opotiki Comity engineer. Mr. W. W. Upton, reported as follows: Progress of Contracts.—Good 1 progress lias been made on the Pakilii Bridge, all piles, have been driven, the concrete abutments put in and four girders have been put in position. The finish of this bridge will probably bo delayed owing to. two girders not coming to band as soon as expected. Oil the Wainui contract, tin* contractor is now making good progress; about half of the earthwork lias been done. M'aromolco Bridge: The hardwood for the above has arrived! at Opotiki and owing to the uncertainty as to when the girders will arrive J. have advised the contractor to store the timber bore in the .meantime. -Ruatuna Road: I have seen the contractor for this work and lie states he is not able to get suitable labour. I. may be advisable for the county to do the work.
Authority Received: Authority has been received for installing a twin pipe culvert on the Peri Peti road near Picrrepoints. .It has been, suggested by the District Engineer that the county do the work. o Sign Posts: A regulation Y.Z. sign post has been procured and will be placed near the hospital, the one in the borough will be shifted! to its correct position now. Ragwort Eradication ; Four moil have been started on the eradication of ragwort. Advice has been received from the. Agricultural Department that the grant has been cut down 1(J per cent.
Works Carried Out: A Compass survey has been carried out t<) locate* approximately the road-lino from Air. Reeve’s property onward through 13 a toy’s lor' proposed road extension. Specifications have been .forwarded for approval to the District Engineer for gravelling 33 clidins Keen’s road. 'The earthwork on the access road to Black’s has been done.
Repairs have been done on the old AYniolabi Road and'planks renewed on the bridge. (travelling repairs have been done on the Peti Peti. Tawaroa, Utara, and Oliiwa roads. The planer and grader have worked on the Waiawa, Otara, Woodlands, AleGivern’s. Racecourse. Factory, Tirohnnga. and (toss road's.
Tenders: Spccilications have been approved for gravelling 23.]- chains of Dickinson’s road and tenders have been invited for the work to he dealt with to-day. The work consists of motalling'Tm from Clark’s cowshed to ■Vanstone’s gate,, and completing- two
pieces at prevent- not metalled from between there and the Crooked road.
