RECREATION WEEK

SPORTS AT RESERVE UNFA V OUR A BLH WEATHER. The cold weather conditions on Saturday were not favourable for the final day of recreation week which took the form of a- sports display at the reserve. School children and members of sports teams took part in tlie march from the school to the reserve, where they marched past the grandstand. The Old Girls A basketball team proved the winners of the overhead ball competition, the Omaramutu team' was first in the tunnel and spry ball competitions. A seven-a-side football match between Opotiki and Omaramutu primary teams resulted in a win for the latter by six points to nil Air. E. Brown was referee. A very fast game was seen when To Hnia and City .met in a seven-a-side. football match. The game resulted in a win for -City by 9 points to 3. Tries for City were secured by N. Sheeran (2) and N. Shalfoou. AI. Delamere scored Te Rina's only try. The final of this" competition which was played Inter in the afternoon between 0.A1.P. and City resulted in a draw, neither team scoring. The ground was rather slippery for basketball but the games were quite interesting. Kia Toa defeated! Te Huia by" two goals to nil. and Reserves beat High School A by 2 goals to 1. The final between Kia Toa and Reserves resulted in a win for the latter. ' The Veteran’s in a special challenge match against- the Opotiki Cricket Committee members, suffered defeat by one try which was secured after a great struggle by \V. Connor. One of the nfust- interesting items of the day was provided by the boys and girls of Omaramutu School, who gave an exhibition of baseball: This game should prove very popular in small schools. The relay race resulted in a win forthe tea nr which included N. Sheeran. J. Sheeran, 1\ Voices and S. Carter. | Teams captained bv N. .Shalloon and E. Upton were second and third respectively. A boxing exhibition between L. Dennett and G. Lysaght was very fast in spite of the -difficulty of the contestants in keeping on their feet.
