WAIOEKA VALLEY SCHOOLCHILDREN

SCHOOL TO OPEN AT EARLY ' DAT 10 M he following letter Inis been addressed to Mr. A. G. Hultquist, member for the district, by the Minister ol Education, the Hon. i\ Fraser:— “With reference to vour letter of the 2lst. August, concerning the conveyance of children from Oponae to the Opotiki . District High School.- 1 have now to inform you that arrangements have been made to advertise for a teacher for the Wairata School. An endeavour will be made to arrange for the hoard of the teacher at Wairata so hat he can drive a car to Oponae for the purpose of picking up the children there. The proposal to transfer the school from Wairata to Oponae would result, if put into effect, in some further delay and might not in the long run prove to he the solution of the difficulty owing to the nature of the employment of the parents at Oponae. It is understood that they are employed by the Public Works Department, There are. moreover, at least four children at Wairata requiring primary school education, not one only, as suggested by Air. Louden. ' “Every endeavour will he made to ensure that the children from both Oponae and Wairata will be in a position to attend school in the very near future.”
