RUGBY TOURNAMENT BAY OF PLENTY PRIAIARY /; SCHOOLS (Contributed;) During the first week of the recent term holidays, teams representing Rotorua, Tauranga. Alatamata, Putarnru, AVhakatano and Opotiki district, primary school took part in a tournament at Rotorua. The play, which extended over three days, was, for the. Mitchell Shield, a handsome trophy donated by Mr. Tai Alitchell of Ohinenuitu. A feature of the contest was. the evenness of the teams participating. Of the 15 games played, five, were draws and in the remainder the scores were'generally close. The local boys acquitted themselves well ; the forwards being the best pack in the competition. Lack of experience in match play was a deciding factor against the team, and practically all the points scored against the team was due to Jack of knowledge in the art of covering up quickly when the ball was;kicked! through. However, the whole team played with a linespirit. and keenness and their team work improved greatly as the competition progressed. The following are detailed results:— Against Putaruru—draw, no score. Against Tauranga—lost, 11—3. Against Alatamata.—won, 9 —6. Against Rotorua—draw, '3 —3. Against AVhakatane —lost, B—3. The points in the.shield competition, were as follows : AVhakatane ....... 9 points. Rotorua 8 Tauranga. 5 Opotiki 4 Putaruru . 3 Alatamata 1 - The management take this opportunity to record the splendid behaviour of the local hoys, both on and off thefield). They also desire to make known to local parents the wonderful hospitality extended to the team by thepeople of Rotorua.
