The president. .Mrs. Thompson, presided over a good attendance ol members at-the monthly meeting of the O'pptiki Women’s institute. The programme was arranged by tlie 'Woodlands Institute. AFt or the singing of the .Institute Song and Ode. business matters wort dealt with, alter which the president vacated the chair and .Mrs. Noble, president of the Woodlands Institute, took charge. The first item on the programme was the roll call, “proverbs” to which all 'responded. A competition, names ol places, was won bv Mrs. iiurrett. Mrs. Hollaed abi\ dr-uionstrated daisy work. Miss lpton. who recently returned from Australia. gave a most, interesting talk on her travels. Airs. Hodgson then demonstrated fancy work. Mrs. Boughcn i Australia ), delighted the audience with a song (“A. Child’s Hood Night”) aiidJ two pianoforte solos (“In a Monastery ’Garden” and “The Swan”. Supper was served by the hostesses, Alesdamos Love, Hampton, de Alontalk and Gault. WAIOTAHI GARDENING CIRCLE A meeting of the Waiotalri Garden ■Circle was he I til a t the residence of Airs. T. F. Jes.sop on August 23. Owing to illness, several members were absent, but a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by those present. Arrangements for tin*" flower show were fully discussed, and it was decided to liolrl the next .meeting at Mrs. G. Watson’s home. A list of flower names from catalogues was handed around, members being asked to give the common

names, and this proved 1 surprisingly difficult. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdumes Jes.sop and L. V. Looney, alter which members strolled around the garden and admired the thriving sweet peas, ranunculus, and other plants and shrubs.
