Tlie monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Electric-. Power Board was held ju the board’s meeting-room at Opotiki yesterday. Messrs. W. T. Blurrett (chairman), J. W. Sumner, J. A. Mitchell, Wi A. Gault, S; Maxwell, 'F. J. Burt, Spence; Air. J. D. Dicker (engineer-manager) and G. A. Hathaway (secretary). The, .minutes. of the previous meeting • were lead and confirmed and outward correspondence approved.
A letter was received from the Wbakatane Fire Brigade., stating that the annual Bay of Plenty brigades’ competitions would take place at Wbakatane this year on Labour Day, and asking for a donation.—it was stated by -members of the board that the request was the first recived from cither Opotiki or Wbakatane. A very, sympathetic view was taken of the request, the board considering, the fine work done by the brigades should be encouraged. It was' decided! to> make a donation of £2/2/-, Wbakatane members stating Opotiki could be similarly assisted when the . demopstiation was next held. v in this town.
Conferences.—Mr. Dicker informed the board tlmt v all conferences had been indefinitely postponed.
Wbakatane Heads Extension.—The question of electrical supply to the Wbakatane Heads area was briefly discussed!. It was stated that the Whakatane Borough Council had taken the necessary steps to raise a loan of £7OOO for electricity purposes. ‘
Mr. Mitchell said the extension of power to the heads was in the borough scheme. Members said that the matter was! now out of the hands of .the. Power Board. '
Report.—The engineer’s report was ■fead and approved.
Members referred to the fact that dhiring the month there had been no shut-downs and expressed satisfaction d‘ the position. Mr. Dicker said that it was not the first time there had had been no shut-downs for a period, but it was the first period for some time.
The engineer-manager reported that the load was still increasing.
The question of the purchase of an area in Whakatane borough was dealt with in committee as were other matters, in view of the prevailing situation.
