THE TE KAHA COMPANY _ANN UAL M EETING HELD There was a large atteudancer at the annual meeting of the To Kalia Cooperative Dairy Company, held) at To Kalia on Saturday. There was a large attendance,. presided over by • the chairman of directors, Mr. Hauk,inc Paora. The directors’ report, and the balance sheet were presented.
The chairman in. his report, stated that' this was the first season thatthere had been a decrease ill the company’s output. There had been a decrease of 62 tons over last season, the chief reason being that they had experienced tlie worst climatic conditions during the year for » long time. There had, been no growth in the spring, the summer liad been a dry one, and there was no growth in the autumn, so that, the cows went into' bare paddocks for tlie winter. 'The suppliers now bad a lesson that they should provide for droughts, as without feed they could not get production. 'The decrease had been general throughout New Zealand. There had been no reports yet of any factory showing an increase. 'There had been one pleasing feature during the. year in that the average grade had gone up and they had manufactured mere finest butter. The chairman also referred to the rising costs to dairy companies. The principle of the guaranteed price was good, said -Mr. Paora, and the old system was played out. 'J lie price, however, was not enough, ’hutshould bo. the* same as fixed by the advisory committee, with added costs taken into consideration. The chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance shoot, which was seconded! by Air. \\. J. Swinton and carried. Air. N. AV. Oliver presented the auditor’s report and also brought greetings from tlie native trustee. Air. O. N. Campbell. The report- was adopted on tlie motion ol Air. P. Ngamoki and seconded by T. M'ekcrapata. 'The lojlowing were elected to fill the vacancies on the directorate: HaukimPaora, C. AY. Fairweather, AI. Waititi. The Native 'Trustee, was re-elected auditor. 'Phe resolution to amend the articles of association by an alteration to the basis of shareholding by members was adopted. A resolution to permit the payment- of lees to directors was defeated. Mr. A. H. Cato moved that the articles of association be altered tv read: “That the number of directors shall not be more than five and that three shall form n quorum”. 'This was seconded by Air. C. W. Fairweather and carried.. A resolution, to the effect that the c( inpany was in favour of the guaranteed price principle, but that the factor of; increased costs anj a just reward for labour should he taken into consideration was adopted. On the motion of Air. A. A\ . Cato, thanks were -passed to the chairman, directors, secretary, manager and -staff. 'Piic payout- by the company was at the rate of 14.5773 d. per lb. butterfat. compared with 13.3575 d per pound butterfat for the previous season. Sales of butter during the year amountedi to 130, 203 13s. 'Phe statistics showed that the.- number of suppliers increased from 134- to T 37 during the year. The overrun was 20.63, while the average grade of butter was 92.11.
