TO THE EDITOR
HOSPITAL AFFAIRS Sir, —With reference to the present trouble at the/ hospital, 1 have no desire to withhold, from the public, any information or evidence 1 have re-cc-ivedl as a member of the Hospital Board. i think an official statement should be issued by the chairman or the board, in preference, to any report made by an individual member of the board. As it is now ten days since the last meeting of the board and the public has been told nothing officially. 1 feci compelled, in fairnes.s to myself and the public, to publish the facts of the case as 1 see them and will do so without hesitation, in the absence of an official statement. J. D. CLARK.
Sir, —Wholesale resignations and dismissals for non-cooperation seem to he the order of the day at the Hospital and one wonders why the other doctor concerned has so far been missed ; also the chairman and members of the Board are still functioning. J understand that after the trouble at Waibi, that Hospital was placed under the 'Thames Board. Granted, conditions here have been extremely bud and most unsatisfactory jfor the past, three or four years ; still I doubt if any. of us would want our Hospital administered by a Hospital Board at Whakatane. It may easily happen. ' “ALSO INTERESTED.”
Sir, — L have been very interested in correspondence appearing in your paper dealing .with the hospital trouble. One thing is evident to my mind, and that is, a thinly veiled attack is being made cm the chairman of the Hospital Board, by someone directly concerned in. the affairs of that Board. Although no expert on the subject, it must be obvious that the chairman cannot make a statement without the sanction of the Board members, as 1 matters were obviously dealt with in closed meetings. According to the pa per report the chairman stated he had no objections to publication of letters. It is the re To re obvious that no member was game enough to put a proposition be I ore the meeting that the whole truth, and not a one-sided version, should be placed in front of the public. Humours are still Hying thick and fast. A new start at the hospital is obviously necessary. The trouble did not originate with the presoiu board but is of long standing. FED UP.
