MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council was held in the council chambers on I'riclay. Present: Mr. \\ . A. Gault (( liainnaii), Councillors {;. J. Neilsnu. W. I hitler, C. \\. Fairv.'ca tlicr. A. I',. I Make. S. -Maxwell, C. Bunk, (I. S. Moody. I!. A. tied ley, T. Burke. Mr. .J. T. Merry (county clerk) and .Mr. \Y. \Y. I’pton (county engineer) were also present. The minutes ol the precious meeting were conlirineili and outward correspondence lead and approved. Inward Correspondence Messr-. 1 >ll nka 11 and Murray wrote re M.r. (). Reeve. slatino terms ol tin.' .sale ol land tor the proposed JHiatnna road. It was decided ter make an oiler to -Mr. Reeve. Jim Auckland Orphans’ Advisory Council wrote asking ler permission to take a streci- collection. ‘Tteecived’ .Nils. Keenlysiiic. Toatoa, wrote asking for metal on his access road.— Let: to the engineer. The Taknpmia Borough t ouneil wrote re hospital taxation.—Received. Mr. A. Wilkinson asked whether the council intended taking a road over. The council considered the matte] concerned the Native Department. The ( ommissioner el Crown Lands wrote enclosing a copy of a notice in the Ca/otto vesting the Motu comet c rv with the council. Mr. K. .J. Rrow' ll waited oil the council asking lor road improvements, also offering assistance.—Lett to tin. engineer. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote re the acquiring of a small piece of lam!i at Kntarere.—Left- to the
clerk. .V i eport of a centennial committee held at Wimkatane was read. “Received”. Air. H.umfrc'\- wrote- thanking the council for its consideration of their request for the I’uatuna Road. » Air. Dilks who has sold his truck asked for a refundl of his heavy license lee*.—Agreed to-. The Minister of Transport wrote re the speed restriction on the Hospital Hill road and stated that he would revise his decision owing to the lack c.-i footpaths. The council would be lurther advised e-n the subject. “Received”. A request for a rebate on certain outstanding rates was refused. Rates Confirmed The rates as struck were confirmed. It was decided to offer a rebate ol ■) per cent, for prompt payment. A request from Mr. J. Scott for permission to put in poplars t<> protect a river hank was left to the engineer. The engineer’s report- was read and approved. 1 1 w;is decided to ask Air. Horton to move !;i.s fence hack to the houndary. Air. Gault stated! that councillors had looked into the- Whitikau road
and satisfactory arrangements had been made. Cr. I led ley requested, on behalf of settlors, that, metal he put on the Otara Must road to allow school buses to travel over them. •The chairman stated that the Kuatuna road contractor had been informed that he would le.se his deposit if the eon tract,, wort* . not proceeded with. Accounts' passed for payment amounted to £9OO 10s 10d, leaving an overdraft at) over £II,OOO.
