Sr.ow storm At Ts W&ra. Snow lay to a depth of Din. at Te Went, near Alatawai, on Tuesday, following one of the worst storms experienced in the district for many years. On the hills, the depth was 18in. Motorists had a difficult time in endeavouring to make progress, and a number had to shovel snow out of their way. Art Union Ticket Lost. The holder of the winning ticket in the last art union is understood to l»e Air. J. Alildeuhall. Waitara, a 27-year-old motor mechanic. Air. Aliftlenhill lost his ticket, hut was recognised by the seller as the purchaser of tlie ticket with the nom-de-plume “Just: a Fool.” Air. Alildeuhall is now claiming the prize.

For the four weeks ended June 21, the working account ol the GisborneAlotuhora railway line showed that the revenue received was £2152, agaiust 9 2.219 for the corresponding period last year, while the expenditure totalled £279 0, compared with £2(i(72 in 1.9-28. The-.deficit en the four weeks’ operations was £(>l2. compared with a delicit ol £<242 last year; Slip in Waiceka Gorge. A slip which came down in the AA'aioika Gorge on Tuesday night, caused a delay to traffic of several hours. Alai! trucks in both directions were held up and mails were l late in arriving at Gisborne and Qpotiki. Spoil was still coming down yesterday morning, hut traffic was able to negotiate the slip. Trouble was also experienced on Qtoko hill yesterday morning, when a filling hall a mile north of Alaluiki subsided. Good Line of Cattle.
Despite the unTavourable season experienced in the Gisborne district, some exceptionally good lines of lat cattle have been raised there lately. An outstanding mob of 30 -Polled Angus and Hereford cows and boilers was trucked oil Tuesday Irom -Mr. W . C. ’.Piliner’s property- to Air. I l '. It. Young, butcher. Opotiki. These cattle were in splendid condition, and horo no trace of the rigorous season through which they-have just passed.

Several Opotiki residents interested in Rugby Football have approached the “News” with the question,' “'Where is Waikohu The team to play the Opotiki representatives tomorrow comes irom the district centred around To Karaka. but the area Irom which the team is drawn does not include the whole of the Waikohu County, which adjoins the Opotiki County. A representative team has visited Opotiki on a previous occasion, this beiiic many years ago. when the Opotiki team dicl not have too easy a victory. The team to play Opotiki to-morrow is a strong one.

The pilot reported that visibility was variable, being particularly good in the Bay of Plenty, hut patchy and had off East Cape. The,\ struck had ’ weather and heavy rain squalls off the Ban furly Bank to the: north of East Island.
