There has been no increase during the* past year, states Inspector F.ilward.s in his annual report. A section of laud had been obtained at Te Kalia and it was hoped to have a police station erected there in the near future. The offences return for the veai shows a total of 1389 reported, coinpared with 1360' in the previous year, an increase of 29. Arrests and summonses resulted in 1*538 eases being dealt with. leaving 33 undetected. The most notable increase's were assault., theft, of animals, drunkenness, illegal supply of liquor to natives, intoxication in charge ot motor vehicles, and other breaches of the A lot or \ ehicles Act. The principal decreases were false statements' and declarations, theft, false pretences, house* and shop breaking. The* only serious crime committed was that of a man chargee! with murdering his wife.
