OPOTIKI MEETING The July meeting of the Opotiki Women’s Institute l was held iu> the Parish Hall on Saturday. Bth. July, Mrs. J. T. Thompson presiding. Alter the reading ot the minutes and nTpw't, business arising from these was dealt with. Miss Valerie Thompson sang two enjoyable solos, “Isle of Somewhere” and “A Lullaby”. ..Miss Eleanor Murray also contributed two songs entitled “Love’s and Merchant' and 1 I iic Blacksmith”. In view of the fact that Miss Murray will shortly be leaving Opotiki, the president presented her with a charming bouquet and wished her overgj, happiness in her new home. * Sister MorgaihT gavo a very entertaining' talk on her work at the Alis-sicjjjy,-•w.pelv’ji work at the -Mission”. .'Miss'-Morgan concluded her talk with two Maori songs, a Maori farewell and a -Maori welcome. New members to - the Institute were welcomed'. A competition arranged by Mrs. Short- was won by Mrs. J. G. Murray. • 'I he meeting was closed with the singing of the National Anthem, aitoi votes of thanks to the hostesses, president and all who had assisted had been passed. The hostesses were: -Mrs. Dain, Miss Sa milord, -Mrs. Fox and Mrs. J. I) Clark. The winners of the various competitions were as follows: — 1 Flowers: Mrs. Jeffery 1, Mrs. Ji. ThomjTsoii 2. Best jar of Chutney: Mrs. Baigent 1. Mrs. J. Thompson 2. Rest jar ol pickle: Mrs. Bui ton 1, Mrs. Baird 2.
