hospital cream Sir.—According -to -a recent issue of the News, AIT. J. D. Clark somewhat, criptically referred to the apparently excessive amount of cream consumed at the facial hospital and the inference seemed to he that the institution was wallowing in his delectable commodity; Onopvould have expected that a person of Air. Clark’s presumed business ability might have shown a little more business probity before making his somewhat loose and misleading remarks. One might also have expected that Air. Clark as a Board AJehibcr would enquire from' the Alatrou the reason for the apparent over indulgence. While an official of the Board the writer made the enquiry and the reply was surprisingly simple, that the farm manager delivered a regular quantity of milk and l cream daily to the hospital, if the cream supplied was in excess of requirements it was made into butter and used in the institution, thereby keeping down other costs. Now, 1 was an inmate of hospital, on two Occasions, once very recently. and although .1 am not fond of cream I can assure Air. Clark illy susceptibilities were not wounded by an over supply of cream. Even assuming the amount of cream mention-

ed by Air. Clark had been actually consumed by patients in its fresh Joi in, is there any more nourishing diet for human beings!" Another aspect which Air. Chirk appears to have lost sight of is that the hospital farm was established for the express purpose of providing a plentiful .supply ol Iresh milk, cream and' vegetables for hospital use and it is achieving that purpose Air. Clark reminds me of a little boy with a big stick and a kerosene tin, intent on the iuiiocfcnt pastime ol making a big noise, though one wonders if Air. Clark’s remarks ' apply in that sense or whether there is a disguised purpose*. J. T. AIFRRY. HOSPITAL affairs .Sir.— l was somewhat surprised at Air. ALeny’s outburst against Air. G. S Aloody. As far as 1 can see there was nothing unnatural in Air. MoOcly’.s remark. He simply stated a fact. Air. Alerry must he very blind if he does not know there has been very grave dissatisfaction amongst- the Opotiki public .over matters pertaining to the local institution. .It is not my intention to refer to any particular grievance that existed'- or may ■ now exist-, but- for tie.' last two or three years, grave rumours have been spread throughout the district. I. agree with members that the trouble, if it does exist, should be Healed up and not allowed to drift on. It is possible that a very grave injustice is being done as Air. Alerry suggests. but- to read into a remark which the board member had' every right to make, a whole host e-f other things is most unreasonable. The public is entitled to think that Mr. Aloody is out to have any trouble rectified and the attack on him was quite unwarranted. Mr. Alerry is quite aware that all is not well with hospital affairs and it would he only fair if ho let the public know a little* of what he knows and expose the other “nigger in the woodpile.” Tim public- has been kept- in ignorance too long of the “wheels within wheels.” I hone the day is not far distant- when Opotiki people will have a lot- more- time for their own hospital. The present- 'unsatistactory position can he laid at. the feet of past- and present board members. NOW THEN.
