IN OPOTIKI COUNTY G KNKRAL IN CP CASE At, to-day’s meeting of the Opotiki Genuity Council, the chairman, Mr. W. A. Gault, said that it was inevitable that the rate’s he raised. Black said he would agree to the increase but under protest. The hospital rate had increased 200 per cent, in two years. The position was quite unjust under the Social Security scheme.

Mr. Merry spoke in favour of the hospital costs being taken from the Consolidated Fund. •Ur. Maxwell said that the rates had not actually goiTe up 200 per cent, as the rateable value had gone down considerably. It was decided to strike the following rates, the figure in parenthesis being for the previous year:— Ohi.wa .Hiding i4sd). Pel; Waiotahi (Id). 4.U1 : Waioeka (did), did; Upper Waioeka (Bfd), 9di; Otara (7 : \d), Bdj Coast. (Sid). 9. A hospital rate of 1-Jd in addition in each riding. If was decided to notify intention cf striking the rate at the next council meeting.
