GENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE REVIV AL, OF BAjND SUGGESTED - An executive: meeting of the Opotiki District Centennial Celebrations Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Monday night. Pres-. eht: Messrs 'EI. J. Baigcnt, Rev. A. €. Hampton, S. M. Jephs.oii, F. J. Short and G. W. Button (general secretary). His Worship the. Mayor (Mr. G. >S. Moody) presided. The minutes of the previous executive meeting were adopted as read. Outward correspondence was approved. It- was moved by Mr. Short andl seconded by Mr. Button, that Mr. J. AT. Henry be appointed treasurer of the Centennial Celebrations Committee. Mr. Henry’s appointment was carried unanimously. The committee considered that all bodies and organisations in the district- should be represented on the general committee, as the celebrations would be of interest to the whole district and not- to only a certain section of the community . It was decided: to order 1000 Centennial badges which will lie sold to raisefunds. It was resolved to hold over the appointment of sub-committees tothe next full committee meeting to be held on 27t-h. July. The committee considered it a most opportune time to revive: the town band which could, be .of great assistance during the celebrations.
