NATIONAL PARTY
BAY OF PLENTY ELECTORATE. The annual meeting of the Bay of. Plenty Electorate Committee of the. National Party was held in the new National Club Rooms at ‘Gisborne on. Saturday last. There was a good' attendance of delegates from the different branches, and the chairman, Mr. F. J'. Short, Opotiki, presided. The meeting was also attended by 31 r. R. Braithwaite, secretary of the South. Auckland Division at Hamilton, 31 r. Norman Dev, Divisional Organiser.. Messrs. 3V. Sullivan and K. F. Jones, National Candidates for Bay of Plenty and Gisborne respectively at the last election, Mr. A. J. Nicol. chairman. and several members of the Gisborne Electorate Committee. The chairman’.s annual report showed that the present state of the organisation Was highly satisfactory, a condition which obtained in all the other electorates in the South Auckland Division. Comprehensive reference was made to the result of the election in the electorate and the reasons for the failure to win the seat by such a narrow margin. of the work was the tremendous energy and .enthusiasm put into the organisation by the women’s eoininittees in the various brandies. 3h\ Braithwaite gave an interesting and instructive address on the future educational policy of the party, with special reference to research and youth organisation. Both candidates spoke briefly on the present political' situation. Messrs. F. J. Short and B. QLEast.. Opotiki, were re-elected chairman and secretary respectively.
