CLEARING SALE The New Zealand Loan and Alereautile Agency Co. Ltd. report as follows on "the clearing sale held on behalf of Air. Jack Young, on Wednesday. on the farm. Otara Road:— The dairy herd of 60 cows was offered in first-class condition and for -10 quality cattle with calving dates we obtained the good average of £i los per head. Backward culvers also sold well, on account of the shortage of feed available. Sundries made dealing sale rates. Brices realised! were: Quality cows with calving dates, early culvers. £lO to £H 12s 6d, top price being paid by Aliss AlcLeod for a choice cow coming t-oi her third calf. Good cows with later calving dates- £8 to. £8 10s. Backward culvers, £5 10s to £7 los; three-quarter cows. £3 10s to £4 10s; 2-year Jersey i.c. heifers, late calvers, .£4 to £6. Yearling Jersey heifers. £2 19s. . Aged mare, £7 ss. Sow and litter. £3 2s 0d; cross-bred sow, £2 10s. Bulls, £3 to £5. SALE AT WHAKATANE The New Zealand Loan and -Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. report holding one of the most successful clearing sales of the seas,on at Whakatane on Wednesday when Air. A. (J. Alartin’s No. 2 herd was offered. Although it was raining heavily, the attendance was not affected and bidding was most spirited from start to finish. The cattle came forward in splendid order audl were mostly July/August calvers whoso test records were impressive. Top price of £l6 5s for an outstanding cow was paid by Air. J. E. Boynton of Waiinana. who also secured another very good beast at £l6. Air. Roderick of To Buko went to £ls 15s for .one and Air. B. W. Hughes of Waiinana to £l4 10s. The sale average was within a few shillings ol £lO which, considering the shortage of feed and hay crops, was very satisfactory. At the conclusion of the sale Air. K. Crocker yarded a few pens of Jersey and Jersey cross springing heifers and anything close to profit sold quite readily, top price being £8 5s and. the average £7 7s.
