WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

WOODLANDS BIRTHDAY The ninth birthday, of the Woodlands Women’s Institute was held'on Wednesday, when Airs. Noble presided over a good attendance of members and friends. Jlie meeting opened with the National Anthem and the Institute s.ong and-creed. The usual business was dealt with and the programme commenced with the roll call, a humorous mime on the Institute, which caused considerable merriment. This was followed by a book title competition which was won by .Airs. A. J. Hollard. The birthday cake,given by Airs. Sargent and iced by Airs. Pilkiugton held place on honour on a daintily set. tea table. The nine candies were extinguished by Airs. Sargent and the cake was •cut- by Air-. Noble. Impromptu speeches covering Institute .members individually and generally. enlivened proceedings. - A otes of thanks to the hostesses, Airs. Hollard and Airs. McGregor and those who had assisted with tlie celebration were carried with acclamation. A “Do as you are told” game arranged by Airs. Noble proved to be very popular. The competitions drew good entries, and resulted as follows: Best posy bowl : Airs. Noble 1. Article from material costing net more than 6d. was won by Airs. Brice, with a child’s silk frock. An amusing competition story brought an enjoyable afternoon to a close.
