THE BAY CENTRE ANNUAL MEETINC HELD HEADQUARTERS IN OPOTIKI NEXT YEARThe annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Centre of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held in the Borough Chambers, Whakatane, recently. The delegates present were the outgoing president, Air. A. AY. Every; and Air. Law (Tauranga South), Alessrs. AJLeFarlane and VVoodis (Tauranga), Alessrs. E'. Hurrah and A. W. Chambers (Whakatane), Mr. R. Ruddiclc (Taneatua), AJr. S. Jcphson (Opotiki Citizens), Alessrs. Queenin and Portman (Rotorua), and the secretary, Air. W. AV. P. Hall. ANNUAL. REPORT Air. Every, in submitting the report and balance-sheet, said that from the latter it would lie seen that the centre ended the year with a credit balance at the bank of £2l 13s 7cl and an accumulated fund of £22 16. s 7d the latter being an increase of £l2 Ids 3d over that at—the end of the previous year.
The open-tournament for the Eraucis Cup was held at Tauranga on the greens of the Tauranga South Club, commencing on January 2. There was a gratifying entry of eighteen team's for the event, eight of the ten clubs comprising the centre being represented, while three teams from the Glen Alassey, AVailii and To Kuiti Clubs respectively also participated in Hie competition. The greens of the Tauranga South Club were in excellent condition and thei weather proved very favourable. After a most enjoyable three days play the Francis Cup was won by a Tauranga Club team skipped by C. F. AVasher, while another team from the same club, skipped by All'. E. Tamblyn, were the runners up. All'. J. Law, the secretary of the Tauranga South Club, rendered very valuable assistance in the general arrangements.
Francis Cup.—ln accordance with the custom adopted by the centre the venue of the Francis Clip competition will, from year to year, follow the rotation set out in the old conditions cl that competition. It follows from this that the next competition in January, ItM.O 1 , is scheduled to be played on the greens of the Opotiki Citizens’ Club, and that ol! 1941 on those of the To-Puke Club.
The annual champion of champions and executive fours competitions were held on the greens of the Wliakatane Club on the lltji. March.* Here again there was a very pleasing entry cii representatives of nine of the clubs ot the centre in both divisions oi the competition. In this ease the winner of the champions competitions, and thereby the holder of the John Beid Cup, provedi to be Mr. A. Bartlett of the Tauranga. South Olub, while the executive lours event eras won by a team representing the Wliakatane Club, slipped by Mr. C. W. Loane. Owing, to the absence of the seerctary of the centre on holiday, Mr. A. W. Chambers, secretary of the AYliakatano Oub, attended to all arrangements in connection with the meeting. During the year the executive arranged for a visit of a party of bowlers and ladies to the Taranaki centre. The party consisted of 32 bowlers, including the president, accompanied by 12 ladies. They left our district on March 19 and spent a most enjoyable week in the Taranaki centre, playing numerous matches against clubs in that centre. On all hands they received the most boundless, hospitality and welcome and the whole trip proved most enjoyable to all those jvhoi took part in it. All the organisation of and arrangements for the trip were, at tile request of the executive, carried out by Mr. J. Law, of the iauranga South Club. Queensland Bowlers. —On the 2nd. February they entertained a party ol Queensland bowlers, resulting in an enjoyable match, on the Rotorua greens, between teams representing the executive and six clubs and a similar number of Queensland players. During the year the executive purchased 100' badges for the use ol the centre. These badlgcs were largely distributed in the Taranaki district by mein hers. Election of Officers. The election of officers which Idlowed resulted in. the choice ol Mr. S. M. Jeplison (Opotiki Citizens) as president, with Mr. O. Tabb (Opotik*) as vice-president. The executive will consist of three members of each of the Opotiki clubs. Mr. AA .AA. B. Hall was re-elected secretary..
