OPOTIKI MONTHLY MEETINC The monthly meeting of the Opotiki Women’s Institute was held! in the Parish Hall on Saturday 10th. June, All’s. J? T. .Thompson presiding over a largo gathering. The meeting commenced with the Institute . song and ode, and the.-Institute creed. The minutes ot the previous"mee ;i:ig were read and confirmed and the treasurer’s report received’. Seven new members were welcomed. The programme was provided by the members of the AVaiotahi Institute, who were welcomed by the president. Aliss M. Du Pontct then took the chair as the president of the visiting institute.
A competition of articles found at the ironmongers was wju by Miss Louie Baird. Airs. Newton gave two very interesting demonstrations on the .making of pine baskets and the making of rapu baskets A rice relay was also run and caused a great deal of amusement. A short play, was acted 'bv Airs. Cunningham, Mrs. Newton and Airs. Leisliman, entitled “Grandma grows up." , : ' ~ The Opotiki president thanked the visitors for the very enjoyable programme they had provided and after votes of thanks to the chairman and the hostesses had been passed the meeting was closed with the National Anthem. Airs. Fox was in charge of the salestnble. A competition for a bouquet without flowers 'was won- by Aliss Louie Baird with Aliss 1\ Thompson second. The hostesses for the evening were Alesdamcs S. Abbot, W. Barrett, J. Cooper and E. Thompson.
