Lieut. J. -Gr. Maekav, of the Hau~ raki Regiment, has returned from Auckland where he was a guest at tiie Vice-Regal Ball at Government House last Wednesday evening. W.D.F.U. FLAG 500 A flag 500 evening was held recently by the Opotiki AV.D.F.U. at AJ.r. Lovell’s residence. The travelling flag was won by Mrs. Hodgson and Mrs. Lipscombe was the winner of the cluck competition. Competition winners were: Mrs. Lovell. Mrs. H. Newth, Mrs. Tyric, Mrs. Lipscombe. The booby prize: Mrs. .Pain, Mrs, Burton, Air. Martin, Air. J. Kelly. These present included: Mesdames Lovell, S. Aiaxwell, A. Neal, D. Pain, A_ Alartin, A. Podgson, Tcrrie, C. Hollar'd, J. Kelly, Burton, King, K. Newth, H. Newth, Lipscombe. Alisses J. Ala-xewll, Spence, Foley, Biclos, ANNIVERSARY AT WOODLANDS The first anniversary of the commencement of the district socials held at Woodlands, was held in the hall oil Friday night. The hall was decorated for the occasion with streamers while confetti was also in evidence during the evening. The music was supplied by Air. J. Alannix while extras were played by Air. J. Kururangi. The duties of AJ.C. were performed by Mr. Staveley. A spot- dance was won by Air' Roy AlcGregor and Ali.ssL’Nola Sargent. Monte c-arlos were won by Aliss J. AlcGregor and Air. Dennis Cave, and Aliss B‘. Beattie and Air. R. AlcGregor. After supper had been served, the birthday cake was taken to a table in the middle of the floor. The single . candle was Jit and then blown out by little Nola Sargent. Air. J. Alannix cut the cake which "was made and iced by Airs. Pilkington. The special prizes for the two of the opposite sexes who had attended the most evenings were awarded to Aliss Lulu Powell and Air. R. AlcGregor. 4 Among those present were:— Mrs. Hoi lard, Airs.
