DOUBLE WEDDING
MCNAMARA—RAU RAU—WALKER Of interest to a wide circle of friends and relatives, was the double wedding celebrated at St. Alary’s Catholic Church, Opotiki, on Wednesday morning, when Elizabeth Ann Ran, elder daughter of Air. and Airs. A. - F. Ran, of AVaiotahi, Opotiki, was married to Martin James McNamara, second son of Airs. Geogli, of Avondale, and the late Air. J. McNamara, of Waipipi) Waiuku. The other contracting parties word Ivy Kathleen Walker, younger daughter of Airs. AI. A. and the late Air. Walker, of Waihaij Bay. East Coast, and Albert Gleeson Ran. second sen of Air. and Airs. A. F'. Ran, of AVaiotahi, Opotiki. Rev. Father Brady performed the ceremony, and Airs. Quirk presided at the organ. Nuptial mass was also celebrated' by Father Brady, assisted by ‘ Father Aarts of East Coast.
The first bride to enter the church escorted by her father, was Aiiss E: Rau. wearing a beautiful gown of ivory bridal satin and lace cut 011 slimming lines, fashioned with a heart shaped neckline, finished with a spray of-orange blossom. The long sleeves were puffed on the shoulders, and fitted closely to taper to pointy • over the wrist. Aledallions of face were inset on the bodice, and down the sleeves, in the centre'of which were tiny hearts (worn on the wedding gown of the bride’s cousin 40 years ago), 'liny satin buttons to the waistline 1 trimmed the bodice at' the back, from which fell the long flowing train of satin inset with lace. Over this was worn the french model veil of tulle, fastened to the head with a top knot- of arum lillies and orange blossom. Three strings of beautiful pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. , completed her outfit and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies, carnations and .maiden-hair fern.
Attractive frocks of liottingham lilac silk net over taffeta, were worn by her two attendants, Aiiss Anne Goo nan. of Paeroa (chief), cousin of the bride, and Aiiss Alary Rau, sister of tile bride. The tight-fitting bodices of their frocks were fashioned with tiny puff sleeves and heart-shaped necklines, adorned with a spray of flowers in shades ranging from pink to cyclamen. The very full .skirts were inset with lace and taffeta sashes, bowed a.t the back, encircled the waist and fell almost to the hemline, while mittens to tone with their Irorks were worn. Dainty tulle veils lulling to the shoulders were worn on their heads, and were held in place by topknots of the same flowers as those which trimmed fin* neckline. I hey also wore gold chains and , crosses, gilts of the bridegroom, and carried silver horse shoes of violets, daphne, snowdrops and maiden hair fern. Air. S. AlcNamnra, of Auckland, cousin of the bridegroom, attended as best man. and Air. L. AlcNamnra, carried out the duties of groomsman. The second) bride, Ali.ss Ivy A a I leer, who entered the church with her brother-in-law, Air. F. Kerr, looked charming in a gown of ivory trench needle run lace over satin. tut on simple lines the tight-fitting bodice Wiis finished with a tiny peter pan collar appliqued with satin flowers. The long sleeves were full at- the shoulders and fitted tightly to the wrists. Her long flowing train fell gracefully from the waistline and was also appliqued in satin flowers. A halo of orange blossom was fastened to her beautiful embroidered veil and she carried' a shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums and carnations with asparagus fern intermingled. Aiiss Norali Hickey, of Opotiki, and Aiiss Jean Fairweatjicr, of AYaihau Bay. East- Coast, wore in attendance ay . bridesmaids, and wore dainty frocks of gold cloque with skirts cut in full flare to the ground. Their frocks were fashioned with short puff sleeves and square neck-lines, and the backs were finished with tiny buttons to below the waistline. Dainty tulle veils falling to the shoulders were worn on their heads and were held in place by gold topknots. They- wore gold mittens and shoes and carried bouquets of violets and gold calendulas. Air. AY. Ran and Air. C. Rau, brothers of the bridegroom were best man and groomsman respectively. ■ The ushers were AJr. C. Rau and Aik. J. Hair. A reception was held afterwards at the AYattle tea'rooms, where some 2CO guests were entertained. The guests were received by Air. and Airs. A. F. Ran and Airs. Geogli, and by
Airs. AValker raid Airs. K. Kerr. Mrs. A. F. Rau was wearing a model frock of black georgette and lace, black fur felt hat and accessories, and carried a posy of violets and pink carnations. ~ Airs. Geogh was attired in a smart amethyst frock embroidered in cyclamen, navy accessories, and carried a posy of pink carnations and violets. Airs. Walker received her guests assisted by Airs. Kerr. Airs. AValker was' attired in a black novelty crepe frock with a navy blue fur trimmed coat-, with hat and shoes toi match. Mrs. Kerr chose a light green wool coat frock with wine shade trimmings at the neclc and a green tailored coat, with matching liat and shoes. During the reception, Al'rs. T, Burke sang a delightful solo, “I Love You Truly”. AA’lien Air. and Airs. AlcNamara left later on their wedding; tour, the bride was wearing a smart" satin backed frock of nigger brown, heavily embroidered with matching braid, the neckline being finished with a gold clip and chain. Over tins she wore a musquash] fur coat, the gift of her parents, and brown accessories. Air. and All’s. A. G. Ran left for an extensive tour, Airs. Rau choosing as her travelling outfit, a navy costume with accessories to tone. BASKETBALL GIRLS’ DANGE FUNCTION AT AVAIAIANA (News Correspondent) The AVaimana Hall was the scene. of a most enjoyable carnival dance last Thursday evening, the function being held under the auspices of the AYatnuuuii Basketball Club. The weather was rather unfavourable, but dancers were present from far and near. The stage was tastefully decorated with bowls of autumn leaves and berries, while balloons were suspended front the ceiling of the hall. Excellent dlancC' music was played by AlcDougalFs Holt Scots orchestra. Air. and Airs. AI. Burke obliged with an extra. The duty of AI.C. was most capably carried out by Aiiss Al. Fleming, and Air. Alorton acted as doorkeeper. The balloons, streamers, confetti and paper hats caused much merriment. The Alonte Carlo waltz was won by Aiiss R. Hughes and Air. FL. Spanhakp; the “statue log cabin”, by Miss J. Grover and partner, while the lucky hats were won by Airs. AY. Ball and Air. J. Perfect. A dinner for competition was won by Air. J. Ryan. A most delicious supper was served by the ladies and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Dancing continued till a late hour, and the National Anthem closed a most successful evening.
