MONTH!, Y MOOTIN' G .IM'lCOlvi) POPPY SALES 'iHie usual moutliiy meeting of tlio Opotiki County Returned Soldiers Association was held in the Association’s rooms on Monday. June 12th. Mr. .K. J. Baigent presided over a full attendance of meinhers. Several pensions cases were dealt with and some assistance was given in extreme cases. The secretary reported that tlie Poppy- sales for this year reached the record amount of £53 os. It was decided to open subscription lists for the entertaining of the visiting Australian Returned Soldiers to New Zealand in ISMU. -It is expected that a party of Australians will ci me to> tlpotiki. Membership for tin’s year is now A 4. It was decided to remind members that subscriptions are now due. A circular was received from the Auckland K.S.A., stating that it had 5 purchased 14y acres of land near / Auckland on which it was proposed to i.uild cottages for indigent returned men., ’flic whole scheme was to serve y as a memorial to* the late General Geo. llichardson. The Opotiki K.S.A., at tlie. request of tlie Auckland R.S.A., decided to endeavour to raise some funds t ; o assist this worthy cause.
