THE GISBORNE RODEO

An Opotiki competitor, Mr. Frank Hutt, secured seventh position with. 24 points, in the N.Z. Championship Steer-riding competition, held recently at Gisborne. 'JUiere were 26 competitors, the winner being Mr. J. Albert, of Karioi, AVaimarino, with 32 points. Mr. Clem Black, Opotiki, who judged the championship steer-riding, said that the standard of work was improving, and he saw further evidence of this at\ the meeting, and while individual riders in some cases did not do any better than in the past the general run of the work, was decidedly in advance of last year. Because there was little between the leading riders, there was no outstanding, effort, the winner, J. Albert, darning the decision by only a very Mihail margin, this being due to some Extent to the difficulties set by his steer, which gave the rider a severe test, in which he was able ter display his skill to the best advantage. ' .

■Much depended upon the type of beast a rider had, Mr. Black remarker, and in each ease, in respect of tho placed men, that was the deciding factor.
