RE-OPENING OF WAIRATA SCHOOL
ADVERSE ROAD CONDITIONS The folloAving letter has been received by Mr. A. G. Multquist, member for the district, ■ from the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education: — I beg to- inform you that in view of the very lengthy rum from Wairata to Opotiki and the dangerous nature ot the road to be traversed, and l the reports received with regard to the effect upon the school children of the very long run to and from Opotiki, 1 have approved of the recommendation of the Auckland Education Board that the Wairata School .should reopen for the benefit of those of the children who are near enough to attend it, and that in the case of children too far away to make their way to Wairata Public School, the Waioeka Native School or the Opotiki District High School, it will be necessary for the parents to enrol them in the Education Department’s Gorrospondience School classes (primary or secondary as the case may be) or to arrange for their attendance at some other public school and claim a boarding allowance of 7s 6d per week.
