OPCTIKI HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Opotiki Hospital Board was held on Friday afternoon. Present: Messrs. S. Maxwell (chairman), G. S'. Moody. E. J. Baigent, J. D. Clark, Dr. H. j. -Mail (medical superintendent), Mr. Ji : Henry (secretary). The minutes of the previous general meeting and of a special meeting were confirmed. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. J'. MdDonnell and G. J. Neilson. Outward correspondence was read and approved.

The resignation of one of tho nurs-, ing staff, Nola Rodgers, was received with regret.

Alter discussion it was decided to increase the wages of the porter by 7/0 weekly. In connection with the appointment of a ~ radiologist at Gisborne (Cook Hospital), the board decided to* co-op-erate with the hospital. The matron wrote re the short period probationer’s were able to stay at the Opotiki hospital and asked if arrangements could be made to keep the nurses for longer periods.—The chairman said nothing could be done at present as the Opotiki hospital was not a training centre. A request for a wireless installation was discussed briefly,' the chairman saying the board had no authority to use funds for such a purpose. The whole question of wireless at the hospital was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr. Clark, who "’ill report back to the board. Matron’s Report. The matron’s report was as follows: The hospital has been very- busy this month, although the numbers are not high. I would be glad if the board would advertise again for a trained nurse for night duty. Enclosed is the resignation of one of the probationer nurses. The laundress has returned from annual leave. The cook commenced her annual leave to-day and the housemaid will be due for her annual leave. When the former returns that will complete the annual leave of the domestic stall'. \V« have to thank the following for •gifts of fruit: Messrs. P. Looney;'.Dunlop, 0. W. Head, L. Abbot’ Irene Horne for children’s books, Messrs. Day and Dodds for trout. Superintendent’s Report. The superintendent reported that 32 patients were admitted for the period, 28 were discharged, 1 died, 17 remained in hospital and there were 13 operations. Accounts totalling £493 lls 8d were passed, for payment.
