Contract N of'iptT for gravelling 81 chains of Verrall’s ‘Road has been completed, and Vitlf’ the extra work done to the amount of the grantavailable, has completed the gravelling of the whole road. . -J'dnntract No. 587 for reforming, culvert'ing and gravelling 28 chains Road has been completed, with tile balance of the grant expended, a ■ further 5 chains of metalling was a total of 88 chains now J : It Authority Received.—An authority has j been received for the construction ftliei Maromoko bridge and tenders 1 lie invited for the work to close at next ineeting of the council. lrviij.e/s Road, Waioeka Pah.—l have inspected this road which leads main Waioeka Road to the \\^isck : a River, west of the Waioeka Palidistance of about half a mile. of the road is somewhat -rougher,a pipe culvert ha.s broken, ia sharp hollow to cross, notwithstanding this, the road is usable. TlfiSre 'is. only a small amount of to* u any use at the river and this
seme distance down behind! . Austis’s property. To trim up tho read with the grader, renew the culvert and put filling over it.-.would cost about £ld. McGiverivs road.—i have inspected this road and < found it somewlidt rough. The road generally is of a dry nature. • A little gravel has been put on recently at a bend where the road was a bit soft. If the road was. trimmed with the grader Some time when it is that way and a few .more loads of gravel put on at a. cost of about £lO, the road would be quite serviceable for the amount of traffic on it. Road Line Otara.— l have inspected the unformed road line op. the west side of the Otara. Road, which lies between Messrs. Black’s and Brown’s properties. Mr. Black desires about 7 chains of this line formed, to get to a building site on. part of his property. A road here would be very steep being of a grade of about 1 in G. To form this 12 to 14 feet in width, and with a light coating of gravel would cost somewhere about £7O. Access Oliiwa Block.—l have run a trial grade from the Ruatuna Road through Sections 125 and 126 to the ridge near Humphry’s house. The line is somewhat crooked, being a length of about 85 chains. The steepest grade would be 1 in 10. A rough estimate of the cost for a road formed 14 feet in width but not 'metalled would be £l,ooo'. Fencing Coast Road.-v-I have seen the resident engineer,- PAY.D., in
reference,to Mrs. .' Green’s request that a portion of her land; be fenced along where a road deviation was made by the Public'"’ Work's Department some six years ago. ; : • The engineer states that- the Highway Board' ’accepts no- liability for this work, nor is’there any fund.s available! ffiom ' the Public Works Department.
