SHEEP DOG TRIALS
ENTRIES AGAIN A RECORD VISITORS SECURE PRIZES - CHANGEABLE WEATHER The annual trials held at “Burnside”, AVaioeka, Opotiki, by the Bay of Plenty Sheep Dog Trial Club, attracted record entries and) the trials extended into the fourth day. The weather was changeable throughout, and on the la,st day the rising wind brought the marque down on the ground. The attendance of the general public on “people’s day” was rather disappointing. The judging was in the capable hands of Air. F. Reid, Opotiki. It is interesting to note that competitors were' present from Poverty Bay and the AVaikato, andl for the first time the local competitors were practically eliminated from the prize-list. In an endeavour to shorten the time occupied by the trials, it is the intention of the club, if possible, to arrange, for two “runs” to be available. This should result in even stronger competition, as at present outside competitors, and even local enthusiasts, find it very difficult to spare the time when trials extend over three to fo-ur days. The results of the- various events, with the judge’s comments, are a-s follows : Class I—Zig-Zag Hunt (3d entries.) 1. —C. J. Hyland’s (Gisborne) Fly, 43 poiut.s.
