A SURPRISE PARTY The ladies of the Citizen’s Croquet Club paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mrs. A. El. Payne on ’Wednesday night. Competitions and games were indulged in. After a dainty supper had been served. Airs. T. G. Johnson (president), on behalf of tiie members, presented Mrs. Payne with a handsome table cloth and serviettes to match. Mrs. Johnson spoke of the valuable service Mrs. Payne had rendered to the club as treasurer and secretary respectively for a number of years and expressed regret) at Mrs. Payne’s impending departure and best wishes for the future. Mrs. Payne suitably replied, and the evening terminated with “For She’s a Jolly- Good Fellow.” During the evening. Mrs. Maddren also presented Mrs. Payne with a beautiful bouquet of carnations. *s’ YACHT CLUB DANCE N A UT.LOAL DECORATIONS Appropriately decorated with sails, and with the names ot the Opotiki yachts, the Woodlands Hall presented an unusual appearance on Wednesday night, when the Opotiki Yacht dub held their nautical dance. The music was supplied by the Kit Kat Orchestra. Monte carl© dances were won by Miss B. Carruthers and Mr. If. Looney and Aliss N. Hickey and Mr. S. Hutton. A valuable model yacht was won by Mr. L. Burton.' Mr. H. Hudson proved to lie the lucky winner of a hamper. The duties of AI.C. were capably carried out by Air. A. M . AleGregor. After a tasty, supper, dancing was continued _ until the early hours of the .morning. Among those. present were: Mrs Cl .Browning, Mrs. G. Henry, Mrs. L. Dennett, Mrs. H. A»h. Mrs. B. Young. Mrs. N.
