Temperatures at 9'. a.in. on Saturday at North Island centres were: Auckland and Tauranga 55 degrees, Opotiki and East Cape 57, Gisborne 51, Napier 52, and Wellington 50. Dog’s Long Swim. A Wanganui party which rowed; four miles up the Wanganui River for a picnic was amazed to hud that a dog, belonging to one member, which had started to swim after the boat, had swum practically the whole distance. Two Maori fishermen using eel-pots in the Motu River took an outstanding catch recently, in the form of two eels with an aggregate weight of 4Slb. Complaints have been made that the section of road along the Torero beach is l in very bad condition, being badly corrugated and holed.
