Mi-. Norman Shalfoon-is at present visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Shalfoon, of Woodlands. ******* - Miss Eliot and Mr. G. Shalfoon jnr. ■were passengers from Auckland to Opotiki this morning, while Mar. anti Mrs. ’H. Williams travelled from Opotiki to Gisborne. Passengers from Opotiki to Auckland to-morrow will be, M£ss M. Reid, and Messrs. W. White, O. J. Menzies, and F. Bec-a. ******* Mr. <G. Shalfoon, who returned to Opotiki from Christchurch on Saturday morning, travelled; both ways by ’plane and appreciated the facilities of air travel to the full. It was peculiar that the roughest part of the whole trip should be on the last stage of the journey between Gisborne and Opotiki. The air was free of bumps until the ’plane came down and travelled over Opotiki some distance out to sea before turning back. The air over the • coastline was very bumpy. The ’plane flew blind on leaving Gisborne until it was over the ranges, when it came out in clear weather at o of 5000 feet. In conversation with a s < News representative, Mr. Shalfoon stated! that everywhere during liis absence he found the country burnt up from the long, dry spell.
