OPOTIKI ORPHAN 5 CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING SUCCESSFUL SEASON The annual meeting of members of the Opotilri Orphans’ Club was held on Thursday evening, when the retiring president, Ero. A. G. Stevenson, presided over an attendance of 40 members. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, a statisfactory financial position being shown. The election of officers “resulted as follows: - Patron,- Bro. A. N. Davies. President, Bro. Geo. Dawson. Vice-presidents, Bros. A. G. Stevenson, O. F. Shaw, and A. Debreceny. Hon. secretary, Bro. E. CL East. Hoii. treasurer, Bro. L. D. Duff. Hon. auditor, Bro. G. L. Day. Hon. conductor, Bro. S'. McDougall. Chief steward, Bro. Iveith Forbes. Committee, Bros. Harvey Hawkins, Jack Ross, A. E. Reece, G. Peagram, R. Anderson and F. Wrigley. Subscription.—The annual subscription was fixed at 10/-, the same as last year. The meeting night will be fixed by the committee and will probably be the fourth Thursday of each month. Refreshments were served and the meeting concluded with items by the club’s orchestra. ANNUAL REPORT The president. Mr. A. G. Stevenson, presented the following annual report: Your committee has much x>leasure. in submitting the annual report for the club's eighth season. Membership: Our membership did not increase from the previous season, being round about the 80 mark. This is still quite a way off from our limit of one hundred, but the smaller number is more advantageous provided all members are sufficiently keen. Finance: The finances of the club are in a satisfactory state, the cash balance increasing a little each year, while we are able to add to our assets each season. The one subscription covering ladies’ evening lias proved eminently satisfactory, and we hope that members will decide to retain tins'mode of subscription. The Session: The usual four men s evenings were held, and) in most cases were well attended. The attendance both of members' and of visitors was disappointing when a Saturday evening meeting was held in honour of a visit.ltom the Tauranga Club. The elubl. paid an official visit to the Gisborne Savage Club and those members who made the trip speak very highly of the hospitality extended to them by Gisborne. Ladies’- Evening was as usual an outstanding social

success and was well attended 1 . An innovation this season was the taking up of a "Sd. collection at each evening. The proceeds were devoted to purchasing books and .magazines for the Hospital. The club is indebted to Bioi Gee.

Moody for presenting a- president's collar for nearing by the chairman of the evening.* Orchestra.: The orchestra, though small in number, carried the main burden of the programmes, and could always be relied upon to provide cheerful entertainment. We were very unfortunate to loso Bro. McDougall as conductor half way through the season, but his place was ably filled by Bro. Stan. Pearce. Programmes: Some difficulty was experienced by the Programme Committee in finding a sufficient number of items for each evening, and we have encountered the same difficulty for several years. In the opinion of the outgoing committee, your committee should contain at least four menibers~wtio rijfan take an active part in a rra n ging programmes. Thanks: Tour committee extends its gratefuLthanks to chief steward Bro. Dodgson and his assistants for their untiring work at every evening, and to all performers and helpers during the past season. It further thanks all member. 3 for their loyal support and wishes the incoming committee and members a successful 1939 season. Your president personally thanks all members and the committee for their support and assistance during tfie past sea son.
