WAIOEKA RIVER BOARD
y - ABOLITION' OF DISTRICT V l —- : -»■ ■ ' 111 a letter to v Mi\' k 'A. G. Hultquist, M.P., the H'on \\ At 'Pait y. Minister of Internal Afftfit’S,"'states : “For some tigie;-past I have been concerned as to the number of small subsidiary. lp.caJL authorities. ..which have ceased actively to function hut' the districts of which still remain ill legal existence. “In particular, the case of the "Vjlaioeka> -River District, situated within the County 'of Opotilci'" v -has : ’ been brought before me, and I am informed that the Board of this district has long since become defunct. “There is, however, no way under existing legislation whereby a River District can be abolished except on a petition of a majority of the ratepayers; in the district concerned. It is obviously impossible for this procedure to ; be followed in the case of the Waioeka River District, and I accordingly propose to include a suitable clause in the Local Legislation Bill next session for the purpose of abolishing the district. J“j have arranged for the Opotiki County Council to he advised of this proposal, and I am now setting oiit the position for your information se> that you will ...be aware of what is' transpiring.” . Any person objecting to the procedure outlined should ' communicate with Mr. Hultquist immediately.
