SCOUTS AND GUIDES A very pleasant cveniyg was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening when the Girl Guides, Scouts, Brownies and Cubs, .staged a very interesting programme before a packed hall of parents and friends. In attendance was Mr. F. N. Christian, of Tauranga, Commissioner of Boy Scouts for the Bay of Plenty, Mrs. Christian, of Tauranga, Commissioner of Girl Guides. District Scout-Master MS-. S. F. Miller, of Whakatane, and Mr. A. Roswell, S.M., of Poroporo. Mr. H. G. Reeves acted as chairman and. introduced! the visitors, thanking tliem for their attendance and help to the movement. The Commissioner in his reply said how pleased they wore to address the meeting and appealed to the boys to play the game always and .stressed how important it was topbey the rules. • The smallest Oub, Walter Reeves, presented Mrs. Christian with a bouquet of flowers. Mrs. Christian spoke aiohig similar lines, to the Guides. Mr. Miller explained the badges the boys have toi work for, including the Jamboree badge, that they must have before attending the Jamboree in Wellington at the end of the year. Supper wa.s handed round by the Guides, after which the National Anthem was sung. The hall had been suitably decorated for the occasion by the guide committee. The following programme was carried out-. GUIDES (Mrs. Sinton).—Morse signalling. Camp dire scene and songs. SCOUTS (E. Upton).—Knot tying. (R. O.’Sullivan), Ambulance. BROWNIES (Miss J. Salt).—Recitation, Dance. CUB'S (H. G. Simpson).—Drill.
