BIG OPOTIKI GATHERING Tlie largest gathering of melnbers of the Alanchester Unity Oddfellows viet to be se£n in Opotiki since the local branch’s inception some two years ago, assembled to meet the district grand master, Bro. AV. F. Bates, and the deputy district grand master, Bro. CL A. Ryder last Saturday night. Over 100 members were present including members of the Loyal Gisborne, AVliakatane, Rangitaiki, Taneatua, Te Puke, Te Arolia>, Pokeno and Lyttelton lodges. Bro. Heniy N.G. welcomed the district officers and visitors who all suitably replied. Bro. AY. F. Bates D.G. AI., answered) many questions with relation to the effect of the Social Security Act upon the future of the Lodge and pointed out the additional 'benefits to be obtained by lodge members and stressed the fact that members would be most wise to retain their membership. Bro. C. A. Ryder D.D.G.AL, also pointed out the wisdom of members Deeping in close contact with their lodge. At the conclusion of tlie addresses, a programme of dlancing and musical items was enjoyed, items being given by Sister I. B. Bodman and Bro. G. Lysaght, whose talent was much appreciated by the visitors. Dance music was provided by Biro. N. H. Fort, Bro. J. Henry and Air* H. A’arley, and the dancing brought a most successful evening to a. close. The visiting members of Loyal Gisborne Lodge, numbering thirty, stayed overnight- and were the guests of the local members. A short- visit to Hikutaia- Domain was made on Sunday morning, the visitors returning to Gisborne on Sunday: afternoon.
