HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY LECTURE
The monthly lecture and display evening of the Opotiki and DistrictHorticultural Society was held in the Parish Hall last night when a, large attendance of members and friends was present. A wonderful display of blooms, fruit and vegetables was on exhibition as usual and great credit is due to the exhibitors for the quality of the display, considering- the very dry period. Some fine bowls were to be seen, namely, pom porn chrysanthemums, dahlias:, carnations, roses, zinnias etc. and a beautiful white begonia grown by Mrs. McGregor secured the maximum number of: points, tlie specimen section had some very fiuo blooms. A dahlia grown by Airs. Beattie secured, almost the maximum points. In the fruit and vegetable section some fine apples, passion fruit etc. were to: lie seen and the vegetables were of a high order. The most outstanding' exhibit as Air. D. AlcAf.illan’s bowl of very fine seedling dahlias. The judges for the evening were Airs. Stuart and Air. C. Reid. The next quarterly show will be held in the Parish Hall early in May.
