STRIKING OMAIO CEREMONY BRIDAL PARTY IX NATIVE COSTUME ; .1 . A ■wedding of wide interest took place’ at Omaio last Saturday morning when Miss Itaita Delamero was married to Mr. Rang! Ngamoki. Both Mr. Ngarnoki and. his bride belong to old Omaio, families and oven two hundred guests were present to witness what proved to be a history-making ■l‘ ' . ! ceremony. , . / The whole bridal party was dressed in real Maori costume and the ceremony perofromed by Rev. Podhipi took place on the verandah of the Omaio meeting house. The guests assembled on the marae with the sparkling waters of the bay making an effective background. .Miss Delamero. over her black and white piupiu word n priceless robe of native birds’ feathers. Her only ornaments were a piece of rare greenstone and a handwoven taniko head-dress. Her bridesmaids. Miss Kahn Dolamere and. Miss Whira '-August, were similarly dressed in piupius and feathered robes. The bridegroom and his attendants Mr. Tom Delamore and Mr. Kohi Delamere. also wore native dress. The former had! a. particularly fine cloak of green kaka feathers. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr. and Mis. Paul Delamere entertained tiledr Maori and I’akeba guests in the: Omaio Hall. It is understood that the occasion was the first on this part of the Mastcoast that full Maori dress has been used at’ a wedding.
