ANNUAL MEETING ELECTION OF. OFFICERS The annual general meeting of the Opotiki Young Farmers’ Club was held iu St. John’s Hall cm Wednesday night. There was a, fail; attendance and Air. E. A. Thompson (junr.) occupied the chair. The secretary, Air. I. Grant, read the minutes of the previous annual meeting, and the baUahee sheet for the year which disclosed a. satisfactory position. The - report of the chairman, Mr. Thompson, was read and! adopted. Election of Officers. y. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Air. E. A. Thompson. Secretary, Mr. B. Gilmore. Treasurer, Ivl'r, I). Bennett. President, Air. D. G.-Beattie. Advisory member. Air. T. Steele. Committee, Messrs. 1. Grant, G.. Bennett, L. Beattie, G. Murray, T. Clark. Air. E. Thompson, senr., president of the Opotiki Branch of the N.Z.. Farmcrs’ Union, briefly addressed... tiio meeting. Addresses were also given by Mr. Carter, Organiser of the Farmers’ Union, Mr. D. Beattie, tiny Club’s president, and Air. G. SMoody, who was elected an honorary member. An apology for absence was received from Mir. J. R. Sinclair. Mr. F. Wingate was heard to advantage! in a vocal solo, for which lie :received! an encore, after which he. led the -■ gathering in community singing. Supper was served by members of the cluli. THE ANNUAL REPORT The chairman presented the annual, report as follows : * It gives me great- pleasure indeed to present to; you tins report on the club’s activities for the past twelve, months. These activities are more or les.s similar to those of year, meetings being held on the second Monday of each month. Attendances at our meetings have been only lair, the average being somewhere m tirevicinity of twelve. The club membership is twenty-five, but now that the club Is firmly established we are looking for an. increase in membership, as there are yet many young men eligible for club membership, and naturally one can anticipate a greater interest being shown by these young, men. The the club are due. to those wild have rendered very valuable assistance during the past- year and I would like to especially thank. Messrs. T. Steele and D. Beattie tor addresses given by them to the club. Air. Steele has addressed the. club oil two occasions and Mr. D. G. fleattie has rendered assistance at several of our meetings. ... A very successful field day was conducted on the Dairy Association’s pig. farm. Practical demonstrations were given in pig-liushandry . by . the farm manager, Mr. 1). G. Beattie. Mr. Reenberg, supervisor to the Bay of Plenty Pig District Council,’ was alsopresent and added to the success ol the day. It was pleasing to see" some of the older members of the farming, community present, thereby showing;, appreciation of the value of our movement. Special thanks are dug to Mr. and Airs. Beattie for their g also to Air. Beattie for the amount of time, knowledge, and help given to the club. A debate was held between Waimana Y.FfCS. and this club, for a shigld; donated! for debating purposes, and although our club was defeated it putup a very creditable performance. Our club lias the honour of forming; amongst several of its members the first Young Farmers’ Pig Club in N.Z_ T’his -pig club is soundly established and is .meeting with great successand is worthy of your-support. The touring Canterbury Y.F.C. paid a visit to Opotiki-. aiul were this club's guests at a picture evening. The club, cricket team played two matches against- the. Waimana Club, carrying; off the honours. To assist the club’s funds a competition, was conducted for the disposal of a ham very kindly donated! by Air. F. K. Grant. The club’s, thanks are due to Mr. Grant for his very generous action. It is this club’sdesire to co-operate more fully with the local branch of the Farmers’ Union in the future and a hearty- welcome isextended to all who l are interested, ter attend the Y.F.C. meetings. The club’s executive held ,a dance to raise funds for the entertaining of visiting clubs, but owing to> countcr-
