WAIOTAHI CARDEN CIRCLE I " The monthly meeting of the Waio tahi Institute Garden Circle was held on. March 14, at Mrs. P. Looney’s residence.- Arrangements for future meetings were made, and sweet pea seeds and freezia bulbs to members, to be grown for competition. On the conclusion of the business, the beautifully-kept garden with its glorious display e-f dahlias, salvias, and other autumn flowers was greatly admiredi. A flower name competition was won by- Mrs. Li. V. Looney, and*, the monthly competition for a bouquet Vhs .''judged by Mrs.' O'. White mud Miks White, " the winners being: Mrs. L. Y. Looney 1, Ml’s. W . L. Looney 2. OPOTIKI ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Opotiki Women’s Institute took place recently. when there was a fair attendance 'of members. Proceedings were opened with the singing of the Institute Song, after which the secretary read the minutes of the. previous annual meeting. The annual report and balance sheet were read! and adopted. Mrs. Fisher, the retiring president, thanked all who had assisted her during her term of office and spoke of the past year as a very happy one. Before retiring, MYs. Fisher was presented with a handsome bouquet by Mrs. Sinclair.
Tlie following officers were elected for the ensuing year : President. Mrs. J. T. Thompson. Vice-presidents, ALesdames Maxwell and Fox. Secretary. Miss Neil son (re-elected). Treasurer. Miss Sydenham (re-elect-ed), and a committee of 14. Ai i.ss Maxwell was appointed! Press correspondent. Mrs. Woolfield, president of the Bay of Plenty Federation, and M,rs. V Wilson, Y. 0., were present, the former giving an interesting talk on the round table conference she had lately attended at Wellington. A letter published in “Home and Gauntry” magazine, and written by Mrs. Kane, Dominion president, was read by Mrs. Thompson and very much enjoyed. Mrs. Davey contributed a popular song, and! pleasingly responded to an encore. A competition arranged by Miss Neilson was won by Mrs. Thompson. In the flower competition, Mrs. Beat-tie secured first- and second places with her much-admired begonias; while Mrs. Jeffery’s asters secured first and second place in that section. The hostesses, Mesdames Pearson, Sinclair. Rowland, H. Burton, and Miss Maxwell, provided a dainty supper, which was served towards the close of a very enjoyable evening. After the singing of the National Anthem the gathering, which will meet again on April Ist., . instead ol Easter Saturday, dispersed.
WOODLANDS ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Woodlands Women’s Institute was held on Friday, Mrs. Noble presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed after which the general business was dealt- with. Mrs. Noble briefly addressed the meeting expressing her thanks for the loyal support given her during the year. The balance sheet, presented by tho treasurer, showed a very satisfactory financial position, ’The president and secretary wore presented with bouquets and the treasurer with a shoulder spray as a mark of appreciation of their valuable services. The secretary also received a very charming gift from the members. Officers were elected as follows: President-. Mrs. Noble. Re-elected unopposed. Vice-president. Mrs. McGregor. Secretary. Mrs. Pilkington. Treasurer. Mrs. Sargent. -Committee, Mesdames Barbour, Dodson, Mulliern, Hoi I aid and Cave. Suggestions were- made for improving the Institute meetings and some very helpfui ideas were put forward. gent. 1. Afternoon tea was served by the hostess' Mrs. Price, and a vote eJ thanks was given to Miss Norrie and Mr. Davies, who- had kindly acted as scrutineers, and the afternoon was brought to a close.
