Pickpocket, An amusing tale of a London constable was told to Canterbury justices of the peace by Air. H. R. Best, who spoke of his tour abroad. Air. Best and a friend were going into a street in the East End of London, and a constable to whom they spoke warned them of pickpockets. Alter a while. Air. Best’s companion noticed that his wallet had gone from the inside pocket of his coat, and with it £l9. He had been sure that he could keep it safely in that pocket. “So lie went buck to the policeman,” said All’. Best, “and lie took out his notebook, making as if to report to headquarters. “I’ll see what I can do for you. though’, the policeman said, and then when we were just going to- walk away lie took a wallet from inside his jacket and asked my friend if it was his, and it was. So he said that he was not an expert pickpocket, and repeated his warning of before.”
