FOURTH ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW 862 ENTRIES RECEIVED (News Correspondent.) . The fourth annual flower show was held in the Waimana Hall last Thursday, by the. Wainiana-Nukuhou Women's .Institute. The function was a crowning success in every way. The flowers and vegetables were well grown and of fine quality. The cooking and sewing exhibits were all very good, also the jams- and preserves. The number of entries received was 862 as against nearly 700 at the previous show. The number of entries received would have been welcome at . many city flower'shows and reflects great credit on the residents of the AVaiinana cliisti’ict. ' -
The challenge cup donated by F. J. Savage and Sons, tor annual competition for most points won by. any competitor throughout the show, was won by Airs. T: W. .Wardlaw. The winner for 1938, Airs. Hewitt, received a miniature eup from the Institute. Special prizes awarded were won as follows: Airs. T. W. Wardlaw’s special for most points in the’ floWer and decorate ive section; Aliss AI. Fleming. Mrs. Woolfield’s special for a shoulder spray: Alass AI. Fleming. \ Al'r. R. Alorton’s special for most points in fruit and vegetable sections : Airs. T. W. Wardlaw. Air. C. Wylde’s special for most points in home industries: Airs. Hewitt. Airs. 11. Fleming’s special for most points in the cooking section: Airs. Hewitt. Airs. Hewitt’s special for most points in the needlework: Aliss R. Spanhake. Air. R. Morton’s special for the run-ner-up in points: Airs. L. Grey. Air.. Al'. King’s special for fruit cake: Airs. Hewitt. A challenge cup donated by Air. N. Eagle, for school child securing most points, was won by Beryl Flint and Agues Wati, and Airs. F. Savage’s special for the runner-up went to llangi Pera Jack and Kiwi Tafe. The winner of the challenge cup for 193-S was Rang! Pera Jack, who received a miniature cup, donated by Airs. A. Eagle.
