ACCIDENT AT MOTU

MAN SERIOUSLY HURT HIT BY FALLING BRANCH 310TU, yesterday. A fracture of the skull and bodily injuries were suffered yesterday by Thompson Clay, aged 21, at Waitangirua station, 31otu, when he was struck by a falling bough of a tree. Employed by the East Coast Commissioner on a batten-splitting contract, Mr. Clay was working with two companions in the hush about two miles from -the station homestead. At the time of the accident the men Avere obtaining timber for splitting. A bough Avas severed from a tree and in its fall/ it brought doAvn another branch, which caught Mr. Clay.

Finding f-heir Avorkmatc seriously hurt, Mr. Olay’s companions improvised a stretcher to cany, the injured man on the arduous journey to the homestead!. The aid of Sister Pritchard, the district nurse, Avas summoned and after receiving attention the injured man was brought to tlie Cook Hospital by the nurse. 31 r. Clay Avas unconscious Avlien. admitted to hospital and this morning his condition avus reported to be unchanged.
