A tourist who called! in at the “News” office on Wednesday evening, stated that the highway between Waimana and Opotiki was the worst he had been over during an extensive trip over the North Island. Earlier in the week, four Inigo caravans were parked for the night, while yesterday morning there was a ring of campers in the area. There was still is number of cars in the grounds today.

A Guide for Motorists? 1 Apparently one Opotiki motorist is of tlie opinion that the concrete indicators placed at the corner of Church and .Bridge Streets are for the purpose of showing motorists that they should drive between the concrete stalls. A motorist who was noticed driving on to the footpath and then going between the two slabs indicating the width of the path, again drove along the path and' between the slabs this morning. The break-down truck was dispatched and the ear was towed to the garage for an investigation of the failure of the engine to start. A Misplaced “0”. Recently a Bay of Plenty lien.,paper published a cable stating that the jute industry in India would he greatly helped by the purchase of 20.000 sandbags by the Government. No doubt many people wondered at the time how such a small order could bo of much assistance. However it transpired that a nought had been omitted. The missing figure turned up a few days later when it was announced that 200 people had attended' a meeting in Whakatane in connection with the fitness week campaign. After reading of the magnificent response to the campaign in Whakatane those interested in the movement in other Bay of Plenty towns became thoroughly ashamed of the seemingly comparatively poor response in their own towns. However they can new take comfort as an explanation lias now been given that the attendance at Whakatane was only 20.
