PLAY IN PENNANT MATCH CITIZENS IN LEAD In beautiful weather the first of the series of Pennant matches was played during the week-end 1 . The matches are played in two sections —one for Saturday players and one for Wednesday players. The result of tub Saturday section was a win by eleven shots for Citizens, the scores ■being: Opotiki Club 91, Citizens 102. The- president of the Citizens’ Club, Mr. S. MU Jephson, in welcoming the Opotiki Club, expressed the wish that all present would have an enjoyable time. At the conclusion of the games. Air. A. P. Stuart, president of the Opotiki Club, congratulated the winning club, expressing his club’s appreciation for the hospitality, shown. He mentioned in passing that while in Auckland recently he had had the pleasure of watching a number of New Zealand’s leading howlers in action, among whom was an erstwhile member of the Citizens 1 Club, whose howling was outstanding. He, (the speaker), referred to Air. AY. C. Franks, who created a record by winning the singles championship of the Dominion, and also skipping the full rinks to win the rinks championship of the Dominion. (Applause.) A round ol cheers for the ladies concluded a pleasant afternoon. The results of the play was as follows. the Citizens’ teams being mentioned lirst in each instance:—
