Penalty on Rates. The County Council decided to-day to place a 10 per cent, penalty on rates which remain outstanding after March 24. Sale of Furniture. The sale of high class furniture at greatly reduced prices is advertised by Mir. .1 . JO. Shaw, on account of the premises which he occupies having been sold. Good Shooting. A party of four consisting of Messrs I). Bennett, 15. Bennett, J. Bennett and A. Neilson, who spent the lirst two days of the godwit shooting season at Ohiwa had outstanding success. .Mighty birds were secured in the two days. Centennial Memorial. At a meeting held at Te Puke it was decided to act upon the recommendation of the Centennial Committee and take no steps in establishing a Centennial Memorial. Woodlands Cricket Team. The Woodlands Cricket team to meet City during the week-end will be selected from the following:—!). Clark, Davies. Baigent. McLaughlin, Grant-, J. and' D. Beattie. Perfect, J’ilkington, McGregor, Bumble. Jones. J. Shove.
Clay Bird Shooting. A|, the Tauranga Gun Club's .meeting held during the week-end -Messrs. A. Parkinson and I). Bennett secured the possible in the e.ve-opener event. In the big shoot of the day lor £ls, Air. Bennett secured the possible and divided the prize with four others.
Dog Collar Fees. Foes for dog - collars wore iixod at to-day's mooting ol the County Council as follows; Sheep and cattle dogs. 2/(5; sports dogs 10/-. In addition to this a fee of 1/- will ho charged for the hydatid remedy which will ho supplied lor each dog. Night Classes. Attention is drawn t<r an advertisement concerning night classes which will ho held at the Opotiki .Manual Training Centre on /Monday ol each week. There is no ago limit for adults who wish to attend the classes, and a splendid opportunity is presented to young people and adults to learn woodwork or dressmaking. Tenders for Gravelling. The following tenders for gravelling on Omariimutu road were considered at to-day’s County Council meeting;— .). Kohi £2BO os 9d, Drake Bros. £329. I). A'fihaere £379. The engineer’s estimate was £313 os 3d. I ho lowest ttnuler was accepted. • As there were no tenders received for Keen’s road the council decided to carry out the earth work and call for fresh tenders for the metalling.
Attrill Cup. The first match id' the Attrill Cup which was won hy the i'auranga Cricket Association last year will he played on .Sunday next at Tauranga, when Te Puke will he the challengers. On the fallowing .Sunday the Opotiki ropresentatives will meet the winners. A challenge has also been entered hy the Rangitaiki Association hut arrangements tor this match have not yet been made.
Dangerous Roads. At to-day’s meeting of tin- Opotiki County Council, Cr. Maxwell drew attention to tlie* dangerous speed at which traffic travelled on the Hospital Hill. He suggested a speed limit ol ',!() nt.p.h. Traffic coining off the beach road on to the bridge offended badly. If. was decided to write to the Minister of Transport to have a speed l limit on the Hospital Hill, and the- Highways Hoard to have the speed reduced on the beach road. Cr. Medley drew attention to the dangerous state of the cross roads near the aerodrome. The hedges needed cutting and a culvert- extending. It was decided to serve notice on property owners. The engineer was given authority to extend v.he culvert when the power pole was removed.
