TA rRA NG A FFXtT JON The gratitude felt, by a multitude of returned soldiers throughout the district for his nine years or more ol clticient and faithful service as secretary of the Western Bay of Plenty lieturned Soldiers’ Assn, was forcibly demonstrated when Sergeant-Major P. G. Mclntosh was entertained at the J Sell Tea-rooms, Tauranga. Sergeant-Major Mclntosh has recently resigned the secretaryship and tlie. Association resolved that lie should not he allowed to vacate his office without suitable recognition of the very great service Jie had rendered to the returned men. The chairman, Air. lioiigard'. in extending a hearty welcome to Hie guests remarked that the gathering was thoroughly representative. liesides the Tauranga section of the Association Te Puke was well represented and among the guests too was Air. Statham. an ex-president of the Opotiki Association of which (SergeantMajor Mclntosh was secretary before coming to Tauranga. Air. Bongard then presented Mr. Mclntosh with a feather wallet, substantially filled, and the toast of Mr. and Airs. Mclntosh was drunk with musical honours. in returning thanks Air. Mclntosh said that the duties had become too great for him anti lie felt unable to cope with the work.
