VALEDICTORY MISS D. LOVETT Following the evening service at St. Stephen's Church on Sunday a pleasant social evening was tendered to .Miss D. Lovett who lias been appointed Infant Mistress at the To JKuiti District High School. The function wa s attended by friends from the congregation, of which she was a popular member, and associates made during her residence in Opotiki. Bev. C. G. G. Salt spoke in eulogistic- terms of Miss Lovett's services as assistant organist to the church and expressed the regret of all present at her impending departure and extended their good wishes lor her future happiness and success. On behalf of those present, Rev. Salt- called upon Miss Lovett to accept a charming chromium clock.

Mr. A. E. Payne, chairman of the School Committee, who was also present, expressed hi.s appreciation at having this opportunity of bidding the guest of honour farewell and also spoke of the regret of the school committee in losing such a popular and successful infant mistress. A charming bouquet, made by Miss J. Salt, was presented to the guest of honour by .Miss J. Sint-on. Mr. Sinton responded on Miss Lovett's behalf, expressing her thanks for the kind words spoken and the beautiful parting gift. A dainty supper was served live the ladies and brought a very pleasing function to a close.

CRICKET ASSOCIATION DANCE Monday night was the scene ol a bright function in the Woodlands Hall when the annual dance conducted by the Opotiki Cricket- Association was held. The weather conditions were not favourable hut, in spite of this, there was a good attendance and a particularly happy time was spent by all. A popular programme of music was supplied by members of the Elee-

trotoue Orchestra and Mr. King played a popular extra. Mr. Stavelev ably eairied out the duties of M.C. Miss M. Muliteni and Mr. J. Keller were the winners of a novelty dance and Mr. T. Mitchell was the winner of a competition. A dainty supper was served and dancing, was ecu tinned until the early hours. Among those present were:— Mrs. T. Tabb, Mrs. (I. Powell. Mrs. J.
